The Theatre Institute at Sage (TIS) is looking for young women or men (junior or senior) who are looking to pursue theatre as a career. The ideal candidate is:
- a social leader
- a powerful communicator
- academically engaged
- involved in the school theatre community
- someone who serves and inspires others.
Sage encourages interest from students of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Historic Russell Sage College has in-residence the Theatre Institute at Sage (TIS) which offers a unique opportunity for our theatre majors to study with professionals. Our Theatre Honors Weekend will include workshops taught by our college faculty and TIS actors/teachers in:
- musical theatre
- audition techniques
- devised theatre
- stage combat
This exciting intensive will be held January 22 and 23, 2021 at Russell Sage College in Troy, New York.
NY State COVID-19 guidelines will be strictly enforced during this event. Social distancing and mask wearing will be in effect, with small class sizes and out of town participants will be housed in single rooms.
Starting on Friday afternoon, there will be an introductory session where nominees will meet the faculty and student hosts. All students will be expected to attend with a prepared musical theatre song and monologue piece. The song should be from standard musical theatre literature and the monologue should be from 20th/21st century theatre literature and no more than 2 minutes in length. The weekend will include group and individual workshop sessions. Seminar costs, and room and board (for out of town participants) will be provided.
Participation in Theatre Honors Weekend will count as an audition for students applying to Russell Sage College. Students attending will also be eligible for the Stapleton Housing Scholarship.
All nominations are due by Monday, November 30, 2020. Students selected for the weekend intensive will be announced on December 4, 2020.
