contact sheet photo series of Maureen StapletonThe Maureen Stapleton Scholarship supports extraordinary aspiring theatre artists beginning their careers at Russell Sage College and the Theatre Institute at Sage in Troy, New York. Maureen Stapleton was born in Troy and became a Tony, Emmy, and Academy award-winning actress, leaving a rich legacy of important roles in film and theatre history. While achieving great success in New York and Hollywood, she never forgot her hometown and returned often to visit family and friends in Troy. These scholarships honor her talent and memory by supporting housing for students who wish to contribute to the field of performing arts.

This scholarship ($2,500/year, renewable), to be applied towards college housing on the Troy campus, supports Russell Sage College students majoring in theatre and musical theatre, with career plans in performance, stage management, technical theatre, design, or arts administration. Scholarship recipients will be expected to maintain a 3.0 programmatic GPA and active involvement in each Theatre Institute at Sage production.
